In 1988, after decades of military mismanagement and cruelty, students at Rangoon University and Rangoon Institute of Technology again began organizing demonstrations aimed at bringing about a transition to democracy to Burma. The demonstrations were small at first, but blossomed into a full-scale nationwide uprising.
